Ethiopian photographic, Painting and Icon Exhibition at the Goethe Institute in Frankfurt, June 04 – June 30/2009
The Photographic, Paintings and Icon exhibition of Ethiopia that opens on, Thursday June 04 /2009 at 19:00 Hrs. and will be open until June 30/2009, is a combined effort of Ethiopian Consulate General, the Goethe Institute, Ethiopian Art Gallery and a renowned professional photographer, Mr.Tilmman Krieg. It is aimed at creating awareness among the German people by presenting paintings, photographs and icons that reflects on Ethiopia’s natural, historical, traditional, cultural and other attractions and resources. The exhibition is unique in its composition as it incorporates both traditional and modern artistic products.
It is consisted of paintings of traditional religious character that dates back many decades. Paintings that were made on woods and goat skins that reflect such themes like religion, life style, tradition etc. In the early days such techniques were wide spread and usual and many such products of historical and artistic relevance are well kept at different monasteries, churches, museums and other places. On the other hand the exhibition also shows modern professional photographs about Ethiopia made by Mr. Tilmman Krieg. The photographer, who is from Kehl (Germany) has previously shown his work in different places, including in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa. These photos show different and very subjective sight of a fine-art photographs. It also gives a glimpse of Ethiopia image in the eye of a European artist. He has just returned recently from Korea and China, where he showed his artistic work. The photographs focus on Ethiopia’s nature, people, modernity tradition and related themes.
This exhibition, by presenting both yesterday & today’s Ethiopia is intended to create a positive perception among the German public about Ethiopia’s image and promote its artistic work.
The opening event would be accompanied with the unique and exotic traditional Ethiopian coffee ceremony with motion pictures of songs and practices of different nations & nationalities of the country
